2024 GLOBAL STOCK PITCH COMPETITION

The McGill Investment Club (“MIC”) is excited to present its annual Global Stock Pitch Competition (“GSP”), open to all undergraduate students worldwide. On March 30th, 2024, teams of 1-4 will compete for a prize pool of C$7,500.

All are welcome to join to watch the finals beginning at 2:00 PM ET, as well as the event’s sponsored panel and closing ceremonies beginning at 5:00 PM ET.

Over 215 delegates representing 45 universities globally competed in last year’s competition. Registration for the 2024 Global Stock Pitch is now open via the link below.

Timeline:

January 18th, 2024 – Event Launch

  • Registration for the Global Stock Pitch Competition is open. Teams of 1-4 students must first sign up to compete by filling out the registration form.

  • After registering, teams may submit anytime until the deadline on March 21st by sending their slide deck and a copy of their resumes to investmentclub@mail.mcgill.ca for a preliminary screening round. The slides and subject line should be titled “TEAM NAME - GSP Competition”. Late submissions will not be accepted.

February 25th, 2024, 9:00AM ET – Information Session

  • The MIC will host an information session providing further details on the upcoming competition at this link. All interested teams are highly encouraged to attend.

March 21st, 2024, 11:59PM ET – Submission Deadline

  • Teams must submit separate PDF copies of the slide deck and each of their resumes to investmentclub@mail.mcgill.ca for a preliminary screening round. The slides and subject line should be titled “TEAM NAME - GSP Competition”.

March 24th, 2024 – Semifinalist Notification

  • The top 25 teams will be notified by March 24th. Selected teams must pay a delegate fee of C$80/team, which will be put into the prize pool. This fee must be paid by March 28th or teams will forfeit their positions.

March 28th, 2024, 11:59PM ET – Final Slide Deck Deadline

  • Teams must submit their final slide deck as a PDF to investmentclub@mail.mcgill.ca. The slides and subject line should be titled “TEAM NAME - GSP Competition Final”.

March 30th, 2024 – Pitch Day

  • Teams will be sent a Zoom link the day before with their respective breakout room. Each team will have 15 minutes to present, followed by a 10-minute Q&A session with judges.

  • 5 teams will be chosen to present in the final round open to everyone for viewing, starting at 2:00 PM ET via this Zoom link.

  • The sponsor panel will commence at 5:00 PM ET via this Zoom link, and winners will be announced at the end of the event.

Prize Pool:

1st Place - C$4,000
2nd Place - C$1,500
3rd Place - C$750
4th Place - C$500
5th Place - C$250

Superlatives:  

All semifinalist teams are eligible to win superlative prizes. Winners will be selected by the MIC in conjunctions with judges.

Best First Year Team - C$125
Best Formatting - C$125
Best Speaker - C$125
Best Inter-school Team - C$125

Slides and Presentation:

Delegates must create a stock pitch (long or short) covering a firm within any industry. The selected stock can be listed on any exchange, but must have a market capitalization between US$1 billion - US$10 billion, and a stock price greater than US$5.00 (once adjusted for exchange rates), as of market close on March 21st, 2024. The pitch deck must contain 15 slides or less, excluding title slides and any appendices. Pitches must include the following sections: Company and Industry Overview, Investment Theses, Financial Valuation, and Risks & Catalysts. Each team will have 15 minutes to present, followed by a 10 minute Q&A session with judges. A comprehensive breakdown of judging criteria can be found in the competition rulebook available here.

Please fill out the registration form to sign up to compete. After this, you may submit by sending your pitch deck and resumes in separate .pdf files to investmentclub@mail.mcgill.ca anytime before March 21st, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET.

Remember – be extremely thorough, but informative and precise. The time constraint of 15 minutes should encourage you to focus on the core material elements that defend your thesis.
