JUNIOR ANALYST PROGRAM

Each year, the MIC selects a cohort of incoming 1st year McGill students as Junior Analysts. Junior Analysts spend their first semester at McGill participating in all Investment Committee educational sessions, as well as additional recruitment preparation workshops and exclusive networking events. Junior Analysts also receive direct mentorship from Executives, Senior Analysts, and Sector Heads. In their second semester, Junior Analysts apply their skills by competing in an end-of-year capstone stock pitch competition, in which they present to a panel of professionals from leading financial institutions.

All Junior Analysts are supported throughout their university careers to pursue roles in highly competitive industries including investment banking, private equity, asset management, venture capital, and management consulting.

Educational Sessions

All Junior Analysts participate in a series of weekly educational sessions aimed at teaching the fundamentals of business analysis and stock pitching. The educational sessions cover how to identify strong businesses, understand competitive landscapes, quantify findings through financial models, and ultimately communicate investment ideas through theses and stock pitches. The sessions are mandatory for Junior Analysts, but all members of the MIC are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Career Exploration and
Recruitment Workshops

Junior Analysts are provided with the resources and skills required to succeed in recruitment for summer internships and full-time roles throughout their university career, with workshops including rigorous resume screening, best practices and tips for networking, mock interviews, and continuous career path guidance. The MIC is heavily invested in the recruitment success of all members of the Investment Committee.

Exclusive
Networking Sessions

Each year, leading firms from across Canada and the U.S. host exclusive events with the Investment Committee cohort. These opportunities give Junior Analysts the chance to establish relationships with firm representatives early in their university career and have historically translated into summer internships and full-time job offers following the events.

Mentorship Program

After joining the Investment Committee, Junior Analysts are paired with an MIC Executive and a Senior Analyst to receive direct mentorship to support their personal and professional growth. Junior Analysts receive guidance in areas including career path exploration, network expansion, interview preparation, and more.

Capstone Stock Pitch Competition

In the Winter semester, Junior Analysts are placed into sector teams, in which they work to prepare an end-of-year capstone stock pitch. The pitches are presented publicly to a panel of student judges, committee members, and all other interested MIC members. The top 3 sectors move forward to present to a panel of professionals from leading financial institutions.

Analyst Socials

The Investment Committee strives to create a culture built on camaraderie and team spirit, which extends far beyond the formal educational and deliverables portions of the program. Analyst socials play a key part in the culture of the IC, including informal socials, catered events, external club collaborations, and analyst mixers.

Applications are no longer being accepted for the 2023-2024 school year.
