SENIOR ANALYST PROGRAM
The objective of the Senior Analyst program is to give passionate students with a baseline understanding of business analysis an opportunity to apply their skills through regular stock pitches and the management of a mock fund. Students become involved in the program following their first year after having completed the MIC's Junior Analyst program.
Throughout the school year, Senior Analysts participate in a series of Advanced Educational Sessions, while also working in their sectors to develop their team’s stock pitch. At the end each semester, all five sectors present their stock pitch publicly to McGill students, as well as a panel of industry professionals. Following each pitch, the Investment Committee deliberates on whether the stock will be added to the club’s mock portfolio, which is closely monitored by the team throughout the year.
Stock Pitches
Each semester, Senior Analysts are given the chance to work directly with Head Analysts to deeply analyze and pitch businesses in their industry. An emphasis is placed on generating unique investment ideas and refined pitches in which Senior Analysts and Head Analysts have high conviction. At the end of every semester, each sector presents their final pitches to a panel of special guests at a public session open for all MIC members to watch. Following each pitch, the panel of judges deliberate on whether the stock is added to the club’s mock portfolio, which is closely monitored by the team throughout the year.
Mock Fund
With the ultimate goal of raising a fund to invest in Analysts’ stock picks, the 2024-25 Senior Analyst program will entail contributing to a mock fund, complete with quarterly updates and an annual report. Successful performance and management of this fund should bolster the case for a real portfolio in the near future.
Advanced Educational Sessions
Having completed the introductory Investment Committee educational sessions in their first year, Senior Analysts will be given additional training in advanced business analysis and financial modelling techniques to aid in their personal and professional growth. These skills will be directly applicable to their stock pitches, allowing for immediate feedback and improvement.
Recruitment Preparation
Throughout the school year, Senior Analysts will have access to exclusive networking and career development sessions with leading firms across Canada and the US. Following their initial mentorship as Junior Analysts, Senior Analysts will receive continued guidance in areas including career path exploration, network expansion, interview preparation, and more. Recruitment preparation will be especially emphasized as summer recruitment processes kick off in the winter semester.
Analyst Socials
The Investment Committee strives to create a culture built on camaraderie and team spirit, which extends far beyond the formal educational and deliverables portions of the program. Analyst socials play a key part in the culture of the Investment Committee, including informal socials, catered events, external club collaborations, and Analyst mixers.
